The Flying Burrito Brothers - Close Up The Honky Tonks (A&M Records SP-3632 - 1974)

I've had this one for years but didn't listen to it much. Disc 1 contains material from Guilded Palace of Sin and Burrito Deluxe and Disc 2 contains previously unreleased material. The condition was very good. I had to enter the titles myself. This has probably been repackaged for CD and thus I couldn't find this title available. Wikipedia says, "This compilation still holds relevance into modern times as some of these songs have yet to be released anywhere else".

The Byrds - Preflyte (Together Records ST-T-1001 - 1963)

This was mine and I probably bought it because it was in the cheapie bin and I was favorably disposed to The Byrds... but it's not like I bought their BEST albums. Still the vinyl sounded like new although there might have been a little skip or perhaps it was that bug that I saw walking on the disc when I flipped it over to do the B side. There isn't a copyright date on this disc. The data coming down from the Net said 1968 and the liner notes mention 1963. I believe both may be right. It was recorded in '63 and released as an "Archival" thing in '68. Amazon has it in stock for 14 bucks.

On a second listen, there seems to be an issue in "The Reason Why" at about 1:48 into the track. I can't tell if it came from the LP that way or was introduced downstream of there.

Emmylou Harris - Last Date (Warner Bros. WI23740 - 1982)

From Lans, this one had a disapointing amount of vinyl patina, though still HIGHLY listenable. The Springsteen cover was stirring and of course the Gram Parsons numbers.... The CD release has two bonus tracks: Another Pot o' Tea, and Maybe Tonight. Amazon doesn't have it but resellers are asking from 28 to over 100 bucks for this one.

Emmylou Harris - Gliding Bird (Emus ES-12052 - 1979)

Probably some time in the '90s, Lans put this on a tape for me. He'd put the Gram Parsons (International Submarine Band reissue) on one side and a Clarence White and the Kentucky Colonels on the other side and used this album as filler. I ripped it from that tape back in December of 06. Since it was filler, this album was missing one track. I went back to the original vinyl and re-transcribed to pick up the missing track and I photographed the cover. I once looked this album up on the net and somewhere found that there is a version which is very rare and worth a lot of money. This one is dated 1979 and so I'm assuming that this isn't the original and premium priced version. That would probably be the original release which would have been 1968 I think.

Mary Chapin Carpenter - Hometown Girl (Columbia PCT 40758 - 1987)

Mary Chapin Carpenter - Come On Come On (Columbia CT 48881 - 1991)

Yet another tape. I tried auto track marking this and it worked fine for the first side but it inserted extra track marks on the second side causing me to have to redo half the tape. It looks like this one is out of print on CD but available used from resellers for about 3 bucks (with shipping and handling). The download from Amazon is running at about 9.

Elvin Bishop - Big Fun (Aligator ALC 4767 - 1988)

OK, I really just grabbed this because it was right near Dickey Betts in the tape drawer but I'm not sure what inspired me to do a tape in the first place. Taking the image art presented some new challenges. I looked at re-engineering my photographing setup but didn't make any progress.

Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks - Original Recordings (Epic 1969)

Yes, this is the first album... the one with "I Scare Myself" and "How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away". There were a few vinyl artifacts that I heard but mostly it sounded very nice. There is just one reseller on Amazon offering this album on CD and they are asking $50. Did I mention that Lans had this one?

Emmylou Harris - Blue Kentucky Girl (Warner Brothers 1979)

Lans had this one. It looks like this might have been played once to record it to tape. The cover and the vinyl are in "like new" condition. Amazon has this on CD for $11. Amazon's editorial review says:

Emmylou Harris focuses more intently on her country ancestry with this 1979 record, tackling songs made famous by Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, and the Louvin Brothers. However, the most rewarding cuts are the lesser-known gems: Willie Nelson's rollicking "Sister's Coming Home" (with Tanya Tucker), Dallas Frazier's aching ballad "Beneath Still Waters" (which hit No. 1 for Harris), and Jean Ritchie's moving folk song "Sorrow in the Wind." Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt help out on "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues," while Lincoln Davis's accordion beefs up the Flatt & Scruggs classic "Rough and Rocky." The Byrds - Byrds (Asylum - 1973)

This was a high school era album and the condition reflected the age. It was still listenable but a bit scratchy. Amazon could solve the problem for $14 or down to under 7 for a used one.

Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen - -We've Got a Live One Here! (1975)

This one is one I've had in my collection for years. The vinyl sounded really clean. The earlier release, (and earlier transcription) "Live from Deep In The Heart Of Texas" was always my favorite Commander Cody album, so this one got significantly less play. Still, it's a solid album and a double to boot. It fit on a single CD. Amazon is currently selling this one for 12 bucks or downloadable for around 8. The recording is spliced together from several performances and so, like many live albums, the track marks can be problematic. I wouldn't say I nailed them all but I think most of them are pretty passable.

Charlie Daniels - Honey in the Rock (Kama Sutra KSBS2071 - 1973)

Per Wikipedia: ... His first hit, the novelty song "Uneasy Rider", was from his 1973 second album, Honey in the Rock, and reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100.... There are 5 resellers on Amazon selling this album on vinyl for around $10 but I can't find it being offered anywhere on CD. There are 3 LP copies currently being offered on ebay for from $12 to $40. The $40 one is a signed copy. I think this album is referred to on http://www.charliedaniels.com/discography4.htm as "Uneasy Rider" (1972). I'd rate the condition of my copy (from Lans' collection) at excellent. It's on the KamaSutra/Buddha label. The artwork didn't automatically download into media player for me although the track information was available (which is another indication that this hasn't ever been released on CD).

Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen - Lost in the Ozone (1971)

The first from the Commander... The one with the R. Crumb-esque cover that reminds me a bit of the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. The highlights include "Down to Seeds and Stems Again" and "Hot Rod Lincoln". This vinyl has seen its share of play but the sound is still pretty clean. A small warp is slightly noticable during the first track but overall, not bad sound. It boggles me a bit that this country-swing band managed to appeal to a pretty broad cross-section of hippies and freaks for several years in the early '70s. I think they really peaked with their 1974 live album (already converted to CD).

A little drop out in track 5 (A Right Along) caused me to rerecord that track and rerip to replace that file. I am archiving the replacement track as a separate disc.
